The multi-section capacitor.
AudioCapX is the current evolution of the original MultiCap™ concept developed by Richard Marsh. Instead of a single conventional winding, several capacitor sections — typically ten — are wound coaxially into one component and internally connected in parallel. This dramatically reduces the effective inductance: Reliable specifies it as no greater than that of a piece of lead wire the same length as the capacitor body. Measured ESR values are likewise exceptionally low, typically five to ten times below those of conventional capacitor designs.
The multi-section architecture is also inherently self-bypassing. Rather than lowering high-frequency impedance by adding smaller external bypass capacitors — and potentially introducing multiple resonance points — AudioCapX integrates these parallel sections within a single component.
What makes AudioCapX particularly unusual is that this construction requires more than a different winding recipe. Reliable manufactures its multi-section capacitors on proprietary winding equipment operated specifically for this purpose. Combined with its largely hand-built production in the USA, AudioCapX is a purpose-built component for applications where the capacitor itself is expected to become part of the performance.
