Ultra Low Noise Studio Power Supply

24 volts. 3 amperes. Built for silence.

Built as a dedicated 24-volt supply for studio electronics, the Ultra Low Noise Studio Power Supply follows a simple principle: start with what the circuit actually needs, then take every part of the solution as far as it makes sense to go.

The result is a linear power supply designed not simply to provide 24 volts, but to make the quality of that supply part of the system itself.

The Ultra Low Noise Studio Power Supply began with the Broadcast Preamplifier, built around Danner-format broadcast modules from manufacturers such as Neumann. Much of this classic studio technology was designed to operate from a 24-volt supply, so the question was not simply how to provide 24 volts, but how far the quality of that supply could be taken.

The result became a deliberately uncompromising linear design. Instead of a conventional diode bridge, rectification is handled actively by four MOSFETs. This is followed by substantial choke filtering and a fast, extremely low-noise output stage. At its core is a precision reference from Apex Microtechnology — an unusually expensive component, chosen because this was one area where compromise made little sense.

The supply is rated at 3 amperes, although the DK preamplifier itself requires just under 1 ampere. That reserve was intentional: the aim was not merely to meet the load requirement, but to create a power source that remains completely at ease while doing so.

For me, it became the most accomplished 24-volt power supply I had built to that point.

The same attention to detail extends to the connections.

Connection quality was treated as part of the power supply itself. Alongside the dedicated 24-volt connectors, WBT binding posts were chosen for their mechanical precision, reliable contact and long-term durability — components I have used and trusted for decades.
