Soul of Sound

A Way of Listening
Soul of Sound grew out of Ingo Schulz’s long-standing interest in music, hi-fi and audio engineering. What began with a fascination for music reproduction developed through years of listening, experimenting, designing and building.
Engineering and listening have always belonged together. Technical decisions ultimately matter for what they preserve of a musical performance: its dynamics, tonal colour, physical presence and emotional meaning. Years of designing, building, measuring and listening have shaped an approach in which technical choices are always considered in relation to the experience of music.
A Small, Independent Idea
For many years, there was also a simple idea behind all of this: to create a small, independent audio company in the spirit of the workshop-built equipment of the past.
Not to reproduce vintage designs for their own sake, but to work on a human scale – with close attention to circuits, materials, construction and the way an object is used and lived with.
Soul of Sound is where that idea gradually became real.
Soul of Sound brings these experiences together in a growing collection of original audio equipment, modular electronics and selected components. Each is there for a reason: not because it is fashionable, technically spectacular or merely rare, but because it contributes something meaningful to the reproduction of music.
The Nature of Reproduction
Natural sound is not defined by neutrality alone. A system may measure accurately and still leave something of the scale, energy or character of a performance behind. For Soul of Sound, fidelity is at its most convincing when the technology becomes less apparent and the music takes its place.
The approach is based on clarity, simplicity and character. Proven circuits, selected components, transformers, high-efficiency loudspeakers and considered mechanical construction are used not as nostalgic gestures, but simply as tools where they make sense.
The aim is not to impose a particular sound upon every recording, but to preserve what is already there: texture, space, dynamics, colour and the human presence behind the music.
Soul of Sound is intended for people who regard reproduced sound not simply as information, but as an experience.
